Senior Accounting Manager

My name is Alexa. As Controller at Avaline, I am looking for an organized and highly technical Senior Accounting Manager to join our growing team. This role will oversee our accounting functions that include month-end close activities and will help us identify areas for growth and implement process improvements. Our ideal candidate will be a self-starter with excellent business, communication, and analytical skills to enable collaboration with various functions. This role is an essential part of the Finance & Accounting team, and will report to me.

Responsibilities:

  • Overall leadership of the Accounting Team, including oversight of Staff Accountant and AR and AP functions
  • Responsible for month-end close and monthly reconciliations including supplemental, schedules, reconciliations, accruals, prepaid, trial balance
  • Timely and accurate posting of journal entries to the general ledger and working with the team to decrease the number of days to close month end
  • Collaborate with the supply chain team on inventory management, and simplify inventory tracking for accounting needs
  • Lead the financial components of the Company’s systems, including but not limited to the oversight of integrations 
  • Ability to develop & streamline GAAP accounting process & internal controls for the accounting and finance operations
  • Support the Tax function, federal, state, and local tax filings
  • Assess technical accounting issues for ad-hoc transactions
  • Provide guidance on accounting matters such as implications of new accounting pronouncements or classification of transactions
  • Evaluate monthly financial results with Controller noting business results and trends
  • Provide support for the monthly forecasts and annual budgets
  • Lead the annual audit process and direct staff accordingly

    Qualifications:

    • 5-8 years of accounting experience working in the consumer products space, with a strong understanding of inventory accounting, or relevant public accounting experience
    • BA/BS degree in Accounting or equivalent experience
    • CPA highly preferred, but not required
    • Experienced in problem-solving, research and resolving accounting or documentation issues and discrepancies
    • Proven experience developing, managing, and mentoring highly-performing accounting professionals
    • A results-oriented individual who identifies problems and works tirelessly to solve them
    • Strong knowledge of US GAAP accounting standards applicable to e-commerce and wholesale business (budgeting, financial closing, reporting, etc.)
    • Proficiency in Netsuite and Microsoft Excel 
    • Experience with Shopify a plus
    • Data-driven and detail-oriented, you measure success both quantitatively and qualitatively, and understand the importance of both
    • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment
    • Comfortable with ambiguity and working autonomously 
    • Flexible team player that enjoys hands on process improvement and implementation
