Director of Compliance

The Director of Compliance will have extensive experience in all facets of regulatory compliance within a fast-growing alcohol beverage brand. The Director of Compliance will report to the CFO and work closely with Accounting, Operations, Production, Sales, Marketing, and the Executive Team, as well as with outside partners, including our regulatory legal team. Avaline’s Director of Compliance will be the point person within the Company for all compliance and regulatory questions and will identify and mitigate risks to the Company, provide guidance and recommendations on regulatory matters, and implement cost effective solutions, as necessary. The Director of Compliance will ensure processes and procedures for each area of focus, meet regulatory requirements, and develop workflows where needed. This position requires extensive understanding of state and federal regulations for the sale and marketing of wine in both wholesale and e-commerce channels, while maximizing efficiencies and adhering to applicable requirements.


What You'll Do:

  • Manage and oversee all compliance, alcohol beverage licensing, and regulatory functions in both wholesale and direct to consumer (digital) channels
  • Maintain Company’s sales and excise tax filing software; check for accuracy and completeness of filings, and ensure timely and correct filing of all required returns
  • Research best practices, stay abreast of industry trends, and maintain awareness of regulatory changes to ensure compliance and continually improve operations
  • Secure and / or maintain state and federal salesperson licenses
  • Process and maintain required registrations for brands / products meeting state requirements, including CRV law registration and reporting
  • Review requests, projects, or promotions within both wholesale / retail and digital channels, ensuring compliance with relevant advertising and marketing requirements
  • Resolve compliance issues in a timely manner and within applicable regulatory requirements; identify root causes to problems, propose potential solutions, and execute solution to correct issues
  • Manage and maintain data and records for various applications and databases for various purposes which may include state compliance, contract management, data privacy, sales and marketing compliance, policy and procedure management, data governance, or legislative tracking.
  • Manage Organic Certification Compliance including audits/inspections and oversight of SOE NOP Requirements
  • Act as the liaison with state and federal regulatory officials on all compliance and regulatory matters 
  • Evaluate individual state or federal requirements to ensure continuance of business operations in line with regulatory requirements while mitigating risk to the company.
  • Document and maintain internal control processes, procedures, measures, and standard workflows

     Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s Degree
    • 8+ years in a role managing regulatory compliance at a wine or other alcohol beverage company 
    • Experience managing compliance for both wholesale and direct-to-consumer business

    The Director of Compliance role offers a salary range of $100,000-$125,000 + 10% Bonus + Benefits.
